Your Guide to Kitchen Cabinet Refacing
|
Custom Kitchen Cabinets on a BudgetA custom look is easier to get than you think. You just need to add a few touches to your kitchen cabinets to make them look like custom kitchen cabinets. Custom really just means not stock. So take your stock or old-style cabinets, and spice them up for a new look. The best way to start is to search through pictures of custom kitchens. There are plenty of pictures available either online, or in magazines. Pay attention to the details of the custom kitchen cabinets in the pictures. Make note of how they differ from the cabinets you currently have. How to Make Old Cabinets Look Like Custom Kitchen Cabinets Resurfacing your old cabinets is inexpensive compared to buying new cabinets, even if you hire a professional resurfacing company. New cabinets, not even custom kitchen cabinets but stock, will run you about $200 each. All Wood brand, for example, has a 24-inch x 30-inch cabinet in this price range and for 12 cabinets installed, with hardware, you are looking at spending about $4,000. Using a professional resurfacing company can achieve the same effect for about half the price, by redesigning your existing cabinets. If you are handy, and have the time, you can take on this home improvement project yourself. Sanding, staining or painting, and cutting inserts for glass (as desired), can be messy and frustrating. But, you could cut the costs down, sweat-equity style. Resurfacing 12 cabinets on your own, for materials (given you already have the tools), could cost as little as $500.
