There are several reasons people will redo their kitchen countertops. Sometimes it's just because they want something new and different for themselves. However, a lot of times it is because they are anticipating selling the home and want to make one major improvement to help their selling value. The kitchen is a great place to do this improvement, adding new countertops made of some type of stone is a great option. These are definitely pricier, so this needs to be considered, especially if the improvement isn't for the homeowner themselves. You can talk to a realtor before remodeling the kitchen and see how much adding, say, marble countertops would increase the selling value of your home. This, of course, depends on who is looking at the kitchen. If you have someone who really enjoys cooking and probably spends a good amount of their time in the kitchen, then this would be a great selling point for them.

Designs

We are social eaters and nothing goes better with conversation than a great meal. That is why so much attention is given to the kitchen as a whole. Small details in the design of kitchen counters can give a really polished and elegant look. If you go with a counter that is one piece it gives a more "expensive" look, and rightly so, it will cost more. Another great look is to have the sink either molded right into the countertop, or to have it specially made to match the design and colors of the countertop. And the finishing touch would be to round off the corners of the countertop. Squared corners and edges of the counters are seen a lot in Formica and most mass produced countertops. Not only do the rounded edges give a smooth and finished look, it doesn't hurt as much if you knock your hand against it on accident.
