The Variety of Countertop Types

If you are currently remodeling your kitchen, you are sure to have found the endless countertop types available on the market today. From marble to quartz, to laminate countertops, the list seems endless. So, what are the best countertop types? There are pros and cons that come with each countertop material.

Type 1: Soapstone Countertops

Soapstone is a material that is seen more and more in homes today. This dark gray stone was mostly seen in historical homes. However, soapstone countertops are making a comeback. This countertop material has a deep, rich color. And, the smooth texture makes it easy to clean and prepare food. Another plus is the stain resistance of soapstone. However, with every countertop material come some cons. Soapstone does require some maintenance. Mineral oil should be applied on a routine basis. And, soapstone has the tendency to both darken and crack over time.

Type 2: Marble Countertops

Marble countertops scream elegance and class. However, they also scream at a high price! These easily add a look of luxury to your kitchen. They are waterproof and heatproof. However, they do require a lot of maintenance. They stain easily, so sealers are necessary to help prevent staining. And, they can scratch. But, the beauty of marble often outweighs the negative aspects of this countertop material.

Type 3: Wood Countertops

Wood countertops can give a feel of comfort and coziness to any kitchen. And, they are available in many colors and finishes and they are easy to clean. And, if scratches occur, they can often be sanded down or oiled. However, wood countertops can be affected by both heat and water. And, they can stain somewhat easily.

There are so many countertop types available today. The list goes well beyond these three. So, do your research. And, find out the pros and cons of the different types of countertops you prefer. After all, your kitchen will be a major investment in your home.
