The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house. If yours is beginning to look shabby and outdated, why not give your cabinets a completely new look through refacing. If you choose a hardwood veneer you can achieve a stylish and luxurious effect at a reasonable price. Kitchen improvements are worth doing, not just for your own benefit, but also to increase the resale value of your home. In most cases you won't need to undertake a complete remodeling project to create a brand new look. Cabinet refacing can achieve this without the high price of installing new cabinetry.

If you like your kitchen layout and your cabinets are still in good condition, refacing with a wood veneer could be the best way to give your kitchen a makeover. Prices vary between different types of veneer so the overall cost will depend on the wood you choose.

For your kitchen cabinet refacing project a wide variety of wood veneers are available.

Cabinet Refacing Wood Veneer Types

For a piece of veneer suitable for cabinet refacing (around 24" x 24") the price is likely to be around $15.59.
  • Cherry. a pinkish-red veneer that darkens with age.
  • Maple. an off-white color with a reddish-brown tinge.
  • Red Oak. a light-brown wood with a pinkish, reddish tinge.
  • Ash. a creamy, white open-grain.
  • Hickory. a sandy colored wood.
You may find that your kitchen cabinets doors are larger than 24" by 24" so for your refacing project you will need to buy bigger pieces of veneer, at a higher price. The total cost however, is still likely to cost a lot less than buying new units.

Whichever wood you choose, you can be sure that kitchen cabinet refacing using a hardwood veneer will give you an expensive, luxurious look - but at a reasonable price.
